LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE.
Throughout the Bible we are reminded of these essential commands of God. At St. Mark’s we are committed to connecting people to Christ and to one another, and offer opportunities for St. Mark’s members to demonstrate their love both for God and for people.
In Luke 10:27 (NIV), Jesus says, “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.” In Hebrews 13:13 (The Message), the writer encourages, “So let's go outside, where Jesus is, where the action is--not trying to be privileged insiders, but taking our share in the abuse of Jesus.”
St. Mark’s Church supports local and international missions through the annual budget offering mission trips for those who desire to step out of their comfort zones.
LOCAL MISSIONS No other expression has the power to convey Christ’s love and compassion as when we unselfishly serve another person. That’s why St. Mark’s has purposely made “serving” one of the essential values of our church. It’s through service to others we experience Christ’s heart for the poor, the hurting, and the marginalized of our community. It’s through serving others we see our own lives change as we allow God to cultivate a heart of gratitude in us.
Operation Christmas Child - Shoebox Collection Each November, St. Mark’s Church serves as a regional collection site for Samaritan’s Purse. During collection week we need teams of 8 daily to staff the collection truck (some lifting required). Can you or your group help? Email Kathy Smith or Randi Atkins to sign up!
Homeless Shelter meals St. Mark's is responsible for providing evening meals at the Homeless Shelter in Burlington on the third and fourth Saturday of each month as well as every fifth Wednesday during the year. Providing meals includes purchasing, preparing, and serving meals to approximately 50 people. If you or your group would like to reserve a shelter date for 2010, please contact Donna Wilson .
Apples for Eastlawn St. Mark’s has adopted Eastlawn Elementary. This school is heavily populated with children from disadvantaged families. Adopt a teacher or participate on teams to provide snacks monthly in the teacher's lounge, serve annual teacher's lunch, or help with annual Book Fair. Contact Bev Kennedy to sign up!
Inside Out Are you willing to be turned INSIDE OUT? To offer a sacrifice of service in the neighborhoods and on the streets of our community? To be the hands and feet of Christ where you live?
This year St. Mark's will be serving Alamance County through two Inside Out project weekends: East Alamance County/Mebane - Saturday, May 15, 2010 and West Alamance County/Burlington - Saturday, October 23, 2010. All are welcome to participate in either event. You can be a part by serving on the Inside Out steering team, being a project group leader, serving on a work team, collecting needed donation items through May 15, doing "random acts of kindness" leading up to Inside Out, or by "being the church" in your day to day life. For more information on the East Alamance County/Mebane event, contact Jennifer Mock. For information on the West Alamance County/Burlington event, contact Robin Wintringham.
